Open Mellon A.E. participates as a partner in the project “ClimaWater: Saving Irrigation Water in Thessaly and Central Macedonia Through Precision Agriculture”.
The growing frequency of extreme weather events — droughts, heatwaves, floods — combined with rising temperatures and decreasing rainfall, has intensified the problem of declining agricultural production. The ClimaWater project aims to help address this issue in annual and tree crops across Thessaly and Central Macedonia through the use of precision agriculture. The project’s significance extends further, as the methodology to be applied is also expected to contribute to reducing soil pressure and pollution.

The partnership consists of: Open Mellon — Education, Consulting & Business Incubator A.E.; the University of Thessaly — School of Engineering, Department of Planning and Regional Development, Laboratory of Environmental and Spatial Planning (Coordinating body); the Agricultural University of Athens — Laboratory of Agricultural Hydraulics; General Aeronautical Applications S.A.; the Hellenic Agricultural Organisation “DEMETER” (ELGO-DEMETER) — Institute of Industrial and Forage Crops (National Centre for Cotton Quality Control, Classification and Standardisation); the Larissa Farmers’ Agricultural Cooperative “I NEA ENOSI” (“The New Union”); Agricultural Enterprises of Mikro Monastiri G’ I.K.E.; the Agricultural Cooperative of Apple Producers of the Local Community of Makryrachi, Municipality of Zagora–Mouresi; Evangelos Brisimis; and the Agricultural Cooperative of Kanalia.
Within the project, Open Mellon A.E. is responsible for:
- Designing and implementing the project's publicity actions.
- Organising promotional and communication events on the project's subject matter and its results.
- Training farmers and agronomists on how to use and make the most of the technologies applied during the project.
