As part of the project “PROTHES – Adaptation of Vulnerable Agriculture in Thessaly to Climate Change,” an informational workshop was held on Monday, June 30, at the Joist Innovation Park in Larissa to present and disseminate the project’s results.
The main objective of the project is to quantitatively assess the impacts of climate change on agriculture in the region of Thessaly and to analyze mitigation measures—such as those related to biodiversity and soil health—that lead to adaptation measures.
The consortium consists of the Agricultural University of Athens (coordinating partner), the University of Thessaly, the company 3D – General Aviation Applications S.A., the Larissa Farmers’ Agricultural Cooperative “The New Union,” Agrosymvoulí – D. Dogoulis – E. Papadoulis General Partnership, Open Mellon S.A., and Mr. Brisimis’s company.
During the workshop, participants had the opportunity to learn about the project’s activities and the methodology developed to implement them and achieve the project’s objectives. Among the project’s main outcomes are raising producers’ environmental awareness so that they align with the EU’s sustainability goals and the creation of an appropriate
framework for the development and adoption of new technologies by farmers with regard to the rational management of water and farmland.
The project is implemented and co-financed by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD) of the European Union and national funds through the 2014–2020 Rural Development Program (RDP) (action code M16SYN2-00390).
