On Friday, June 27, 2025, at the premises of the TOEB of Mikro Monastiri, the final information workshop of the “Climawater” project – Water saving in irrigation in Thessaly and Central Macedonia using precision agriculture – was held.
The aim of the project is to address the water scarcity problems already affecting agricultural crops, which are expected to intensify further due to climate change. Specifically, it aims to reduce irrigation water consumption by at least 30% through the application of precision agriculture technologies in annual and perennial crops in Thessaly and Central Macedonia.
The partners in this consortium are the University of Thessaly (Lead Partner), the Agricultural University of Athens, the company 3D, ELGO Dimitra / Institute of Soil and Water Resources, the Larissa Farmers’ Agricultural Cooperative “The New Union,” Agricultural Enterprises of Mikro Monastiro C’ IKE, the company Open Mellon – Education-Consulting–Business Incubator S.A., the Agricultural Cooperative of Apple Growers of the Local Community of Makryrachi, Municipality of Zagora-Mouresi, Evangelos Brisimis, and the Agricultural Cooperative of Kanalia.

During the workshop, a presentation was given on the project, the implementation stages of the proposed methodology, and the results and data obtained from the study of the selected pilot crops in Central Macedonia, and an in-depth analysis was provided of how meteorological data are collected and utilized through the operational weather forecasting model.
The main outcomes of the project include the adoption of new digital technologies in agriculture, the reduction of production costs and the resulting increase in farmers’ income, and, above all, the reduction of soil contamination and pollution.
